Condolence: So I had a dream about going back to St.Jerome last night .I live in Florida but I was married by Father Calkins in 1982 , in my dream he was praying with me and my husband like he did back then before he married us . I immediately started searching for any word on him . I found this memorial page . I am so sorry for the loss of this great and loving priest . May he continue to rest in peace . Condolence: Truly not a nicer man on this earth than Uncle Howard. He had such a wonderful spirit and a heart of gold along with one terrific handshake! Condolence: My heart is truly saddened by the passing of my friend, confidant, and spiritual advisor. I shall miss him with all my heart. Howard was an inspiration and a man of amazing grace who inspired me as well as many others with his faith, his love, and his goodness. Condolence: Msgr. Calkins was everything a priest should be. I'm sure my mother greeted him with a hug in heaven. I remember how sad we were when he left St. John's and I was glad I was able to see him years later in Mt. Vernon.

Condolence: He was at Corpus from 1976-1980. Over the years I as many have had the opportunity to share many parts of my life with joyful and sorrowful. Fr. Howie as I called him because I was not able to pronounce Caulkins, he placed his gentle hand around my shoulder and tried to assist me to pronounce it he then said " to you I'm Fr. Howie." Fr. Howie, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for always being there, and being true. I thank you for those late night visits when I was in the Weill Cornell fighting for my life. Thank you for loving me and all of teachable moments. May you find the rest you so richly deserve. Until we meet again St. Howard Calkins.

Condolence: THE ENTIRE FAMILY OF THE LATE SAMUEL GOURDINE AND MRS. RUTH GOURDINE are truly saddened by the passing of Msgr. HOWARD CALKINS, a true friend to our family. He now is resting in Our Lord"s loving arms. R. I. P.

Condolence: I have many happy memories of Monsignor Caulkins. A man of integrity and honesty no matter the cost. So grateful to have worked with him at Corpus Christ Parish in Manhattan and to depart from my regular Parish to attend his Sunday's Mass at St. Joseph of the Holy Family and Sacred Heart in Mt Vernon on those Sunday's when my soul needed extra strength. It did not surprise me that Jesus took him home on Good Friday. This day you shall be with Me in Paradise. St Howard pray for us as we will for you until we meet again in heaven.

Condolence: So terribly saddened by Msgr. Calkins's passing. He was my mentor, my teacher, my friend and his passion for all humanity inspired my choice to work with the homeless and hungry poor. May he rest peacefully with the angels, protected by His grace.
