The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Robert Jones can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Obituary for Robert Glenn Jones

On November 24, 1964, Robert Glenn Jones was born in New York City. He was the second son of Tony L. Jones and Pearl M. Jones. He’s called “Glenn,” by his family; and “Rob,” by everyone else. Rob was raised in the East Village neighborhood, in Manhattan, NYC; and he attended and graduated from Mary Help of Christians School and LaSalle Academy, both in the East Village.
As a youth, Rob loved to spend his summers, in Williamston, SC, with his grandparents, the late Rochell and Hattie Mattison. He especially loved being able to play out-of-doors, in the countryside; and he would return home, after his Southern summer “adventures,” with lots of happy memories, along with lots of scrapes and bruises. Rob always referred to his summers with his grandparents, as his “Summer Camp.”
He loved sports and was an excellent athlete. After high school, he earned a basketball scholarship to Howard University, where he was a student-athlete. In 1989, he graduated from Howard University, with his Bachelor of Science degree, in Accounting. After graduating college, Rob returned to New York City.
Rob married Tracey Johnson, in 2000; and from that union, Christopher Jones and Sydney Jones were born. Rob was a wonderful Dad, who loved and adored his children. They were his pride and joy; and he loved spending time with them; and taking them places. There was absolutely nothing he would not do, for his children!
He served as a Substitute Teacher, with the New York City Department of Education; before becoming a Consultant, with Atrium Staffing. Since 2016, he was a Senior Investment Accountant, for AIG. In 2017, Rob received the AIG Corporate Comptroller’s “Most Valuable Player” Award, for his “display of teamwork, problem-solving, collaboration and initiative.”
Rob loved to have fun! Everyone knew him; and loved him! He had a personality that was bigger than life! He loved his family and he was devoted to his father and mother. In 2016, Rob became engaged to marry Davina Smith.
If you asked Rob about his hobbie//s, you would get a quick response: “food and sports—in that order!” He loved to eat; he loved to cook; and he loved dining out! Rob was a BIG man; with a BIG heart; who leaves a BIG hole, in the hearts of those who knew and love him.
On Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2018, in New York City, God called Rob home, to be with Him. Rob’s light shone brightly on this earth…now it shines brightly, from above! He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory: his two wonderful children, Christopher Jones and Sydney Jones; his parents, Tony and Pearl Jones; his brother, Ronald Gregory Jones and niece, Kayla Nicole Jones; three aunts: Elizabeth Jones Grice, Jean Mattison, and Dorothy Ruffin; three uncles: Harold Mackey, Ralph Jones, and Billy Mattison; his God-sister, Frances Ferrara; his “adopted” sister, Wanda Figueroa; many cousins and other family members; lots and lots of friends; and his beloved Davina Smith.
