Life Story for John Seoane

John Seoane was born on June 23, 1928 and passed away on October 7, 2018.
After a childhood in Spain, he immigrated to the United States as a teenager, landing in America in June of 1945. In 1948 he married Mary Anito and they had a daughter, Marie, in 1949.
His working life began as a cook at a major New York City bank and continued with cooking jobs at local restaurants. An entrepreneur by nature, he opened his own restaurant – The Sea Shell – in lower Manhattan on the west side. Several years later, with the closing of some of the major docks on the Hudson River, John was forced to close the restaurant.
Always the opportunist, John obtained a liquor license and opened a bar/restaurant that became a well-known spot on the lower west side of Manhattan, featuring John’s excellent cuisine which drew in a large customer base. His cooking was also legendary within his immediate and extended family, with hardly a single recipe written down.
Using proceeds from the bar/restaurant business, he began to invest selectively in real estate. At the time of his passing, he was the owner of a residential & commercial complex.
After his daughter Marie married and started her own family with two daughters, he became a doting grandfather. Around that time, he also became a loving caregiver to his wife, who had developed some medical issues. His love and devotion to all of his “girls” was genuine and enduring.
He leaves behind daughter Marie Seoane Johnson, son-in-law Roy Johnson, granddaughters Lauren and Lisa Johnson, sister-in-law Julie Lopez, niece Denise Lopez Sampogne, plus a number of cousins and distant relatives.
The family will receive guests at 10:00 on Friday, October 12th at Redden’s Funeral Home, 325 West 14th Street, New York, NY 10014 (212-242-1456 … http://www.reddenfuneralhome.net). A service of remembrance will follow at the funeral home at 11:00, with Burial at St. Raymond’s Cemetery in the Bronx after the service.
