My deepest condolences go to Janet, Caitlin, and John, and Eugene, his brother from another mother – as well as to Dave’s brothers and sister, and his colleagues and friends who saw him so often.

Dave and I developed a friendship through basketball and baseball in the 60’s and 70’s, and I was one of his high school teammates and friends. He was someone you could put your trust in, someone you didn’t want to let down. At that time I don’t remember Dave being the storyteller he became, but even way back then he was someone to like and admire. Recently he reminded me that our stern and well respected pastor Father McCue chose Dave as one of the altar servers for his own funeral mass, which shows how much esteem the priest had for Dave, even though he was still only in middle school at the time. That’s testimony enough for me regarding the trust and respect Dave deserved.

To the question, ‘what would you like to do when you grow up?’ some people respond, ‘I want to help people.’ It’s a nice thought, but most people don’t seem to have the means to be of much real help to others. But with what Dave did as a lawyer, he actually did help people, including me, and I will always be thankful to him for his help.

A number of years back when we reconnected at a high school reunion, Dave welcomed me back into his friendship. My wife and I cherished the times we were able to spend with him and Janet. When introducing me to his colleagues and friends he would point out how he had known me for more than 50 years. It was nice to be thought of in that way.

Recently after hard feelings had come between Dave and another of his old friends, Dave showed how important his friendships and relationships meant to him. He reached out to that friend to smooth things over because as he told me – Life is too short. I will honor Dave by remembering his example and trying to follow it.

Lastly, it was always comforting to know when the King of the Sunrise was out on the beach posting amazing morning photos. Going forward, when I see a sunrise or hear “Here Comes the Sun”, I’ll be thinking of Dave and how happy I was, and am, to have known him and to have been his friend.

Deeply saddened by the loss of such a wonderful person, and so grateful for the livestream today of Dave's touching Celebration of Life. I knew Dave at Moravian College as a poet, a brilliant and gentle soul, and someone with deep, empathic feelings. It was lovely to learn today all that he did in life with his brilliance, kindness, and caring... and to "meet" the beautiful people with whom his life was entwined. My condolences to all of his family and friends. Dave will live on in the hearts of all who knew him and loved him. Rest in Peace, dear Dave. With Love, Kathy

Dave's passing seems so unfair...a good good man who should still be with us. My love and sincere sympathy to his family, friends, and Moravian teammates.

My wife Terry and I are deeply saddened to learn of David's passing. David was a stalwart on the 1976 Moravian College Hall of Fame basketball team. He was loyal, dependable, dedicated and determined to contribute in all aspects of the team's goals. These traits were evident and his leadership qualities indicated that there was no ceiling as to what he would accomplish. It was an honor for my family to have known David and for me to have been his basketball coach at Moravian College.
Fondly,
Ted and Terry Zawacki

Dave was a special person in our lives. He was generous, kind, loved life, and always put others before himself. He will be greatly missed but we will cherish the great memories that we have of all the great times we had together celebrating life.
