Obituary for Frederick R. Knight

Frederick Raymond Knight, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home in Manhattan, NY on January 2, 2020, at age 95.

Born on October 22, 1924 in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania to the late Frederick Raymond Knight, Sr. and Martha Ann (Mahaffey) Knight. Beloved brother of Anna Margaret (Knight) Sheppard and Martha Virginia (Knight) Catizone.

On May 13th 1938, at age 14, Fred received the American Legion School Award from the Ellwood City American Legion Post 157, for courage, leadership, honor, service and scholarship. He continued on with his studies and in 1942 graduated from Lincoln High School, in Ellwood City, PA.

Fred was a World War II Veteran. After high school, he enlisted and served as a Quartermaster 2 with the US Navy. He served his tour of duty in the Pacific Theater. Directly following the war, he traveled to Germany to assist with post-war reconstruction.

When he returned to the states, Fred attended Amherst College on the G.I. bill and graduated with a degree in Liberal Arts in 1950.

Fred worked as a manager for the American Express Company, Incorporated, both in New York City and in Taunusanlage, Frankfurt, Germany.

He was a selfless man who, during layoffs, gave up his job so that his co-workers, who had families, could keep theirs.

Fred was a kind and gentle man with a quiet sense of humor, who was deeply loved by his family.

He is survived by, and fondly remembered by his two nieces Victoria (Catizone) Mannion and Lisa Catizone, and his two nephews Herbert Barton Sheppard and Frederick Knight Sheppard.
