Obituary for Paul Xavier Verona

Paul Verona has enjoyed great success throughout the United States and Europe. He has appeared as soloist with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, The Brooklyn Symphony, the Manhattan Contemporary Ensemble, the Sheboygan Symphony and the Catholic Symphony Orchestra of Wisconsin. He has twice performed in recital at the Metropolitan Museum of Art under the auspices of the Department of Musical Instruments and at the Town Hall in New York City. His countless performances in Austria, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Italy have brought him wide critical acclaim. He has performed on numerous occasions for the United States Department of the Interior and has been a frequent guest artist on the Goethe Institute’s recital series. Performances have also been heard on the VARA radio in Holland, RAI in Italy and the USA and radio and television stations throughout the United States. Mr. Verona has received numerous awards including the Viotti-Valsesia International Piano Competition for Romantic Music, the National Society of Arts and Letters Piano Career Award and twice was awarded first prize in the International Piano Recording Competition. He has been the recipient of performance and research grants from the Mu Phi Epsilon and Eccola Foundations. Mr. Verona's varied repertoire focuses in large part on the great works of the romantic period. His inspiring and dramatic interpretations of Chopin, Schumann, Brahms, Rachmaninoff, Liszt, and especially Albéniz have delighted audiences and have earned him a highly revered reputation in this regard. He is equally at home in the recording studio. Mr. Verona’s recording of Isaac Albèniz's Iberia Suite was released on the Centaur Records label in 2012 and can be found on all streaming radio services and on YouTube. His next project was to record the complete Chopin Nocturnes. He holds degrees from the Bologna Conservatory of Music, the Juilliard School, and the Manhattan School of Music.
Paul is survived by his sisters, Mary Ellen Burrescia and Monica Verona, nephews and nieces, Dominic and Monika (nee Haber) and great-niece, Siena Burrescia, Elizabeth (nee Burrescia) and Shawn Krenke, his beloved cockapoo “Ludwig,” and countless cousins, friends, and colleagues.
