GILLEN—John M. (Jack) of Manhattan, passed away peacefully at New York Presbyterian Hospital on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at the age of 85. Following a distinguished career in banking, Jack served as an independent money manager. He was a graduate of Georgetown University and the Harvard Business School. He was a former director of the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, Continuum Health Partners, and the Brooklyn Prep Alumni Association. In addition to his professional career, Jack was actively involved in the Greenwich Village community, and hosted regular financial literacy classes at Greenwich House under the auspices of The Caring Community. Jack’s beloved wife of 42 years, Barbara (Bobbi) Eyre Gillen, predeceased Jack in 2006. Jack leaves behind a wide circle of friends who cherish the memory of a friend whose compassion, kindness and extraordinary intellect will be sorely missed. A celebration of Jack’s life will be held in the summer of 2021.
