John E. Gallagher III, husband to Rosanne (Rose), father to Elizabeth and Danielle, and eldest brother to Paula Scott, Grace Aquilino, and Joe Gallagher, as well as an uncle and godfather to many, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2019, due to complications after two cardiac arrests.
John was a deeply loved and admired man. His presence impacted the lives of life long friends as well as many people in the film/TV industry. As a man always behind the camera, his influence was not always recognized but it was felt by all. His talents allowed for great accolades to be achieved, and he remains an inspiration to each of us. His existence in our lives allowed us to be better people.
There will be a celebration of John’s life at Redden’s Funeral Home, located at 325 West 14th Street between 8th and 9th Avenue, on Saturday, March 9 from 6 PM to 9 PM, and Sunday, March 10, from 2 PM - 6 PM. A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, March 11 at 10:00 AM at the Epiphany Church, located at 373 Second Avenue (on the corner of East 22nd Street).

John. I have every right to be upset with you. You are too good a man, too good a Dad and husband to go this soon. Mostly, I want you to know I love you. We spent so many hours together, at various stages of my life and career. We had some lows, but mostly highs, and I trusted you, completely. So many lunches, scout van rides, and long set hours. You always showed up and did your job well, and am eternally grateful for your friendship. You saw every side of me; some ok, some very much not ok, and some pretty darn good. But you always greeted me with that big ole smile. You were the consummate pro. You will be deeply missed. See you on the other side, Johnny-your pal, J

John and Rose are in my thoughts today. I read the sad news that John is gone in the DGA monthly magazine. Such sad news! He was a friend to me when we were starting out as PA's. I remember working with him on movies and TV shows. He was such a great person on set, loved and respected by all. I will always remember easy manner, his smile, his willingness to work hard in the cold and rain, and how he treated everyone with great respect. I remember he loved Rose and he loved to golf.

Please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of your loved one. It seems so unfair that death should have the power to take away someone you love. However, the Bible at Psalm 34 and verse 18 assures us that our Heavenly Father is aware of our pain and is near to the broken-hearted. The Bible also gives us the promise that there will be a resurrection and that God will bring an end to death once and for all (Revelation 21:4). It is my hope that the power of God’s Word will help to ease your sorrow as you cherish the loving memories you shared together. For more information please visit JW.ORG.

What a terrible loss to the works. John was such a good man. So full of joy & laughter. His greatest joy was his family, Bri g a Dad, a husband & a big brother. He made all of us in his world feel like part of that family. He is forever in our hearts. I feel honored to have been his friend.
